/My most heartfelt thanks and appreciation for this letter sent to Rachel Maddow:
—————
Dear Ms. Maddow
While I share your abhorrence of the events that unfolded at Walter Reed Medical Center last night, Tuesday, October 5th; the lack of transparency regarding the medical condition of the entire hospitalization period and subsequent discharge of Donald J Trump back to the White House , and his behavior thereafter, I was astounded and then incensed by your depiction of Dr Sean Conley's medical education and background.
You seemed to infer that the judgement and treatment management of his patient Donald J Trump was second-rate because Dr Conley has D.O. after his name, not MD. In fact you, more than once, referred to him as Dr. Conley, an “osteopath” (italics are yours), your voice dripping with disdain and loathing as if that very body should be reviled and shunned. As though an osteopath were a quack, a snake-oil salesman, someone not a real physician. You said he is not an internist. No he is not, neither are surgeons, anesthesiologists and many other medical specialists. That does not make them lacking.
You knowingly and deliberately maligned the entire school of medicine referred to as Osteopathy and its practitioners, the D.O.’s or Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine. It is a legitimate school of medicine, one that is recognized as such in this country, and it’s graduates, the D.O.’s, are legitimate, fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine.
And you KNOW this. You read enough. You do enough background checking, enough research. You have a PhD (correction D.Phil. - you got yours from Oxford in the UK) and your thesis dealt with HIV in prison populations, did it not?
This must have involved some research into medicine and its practitioners, so I do not believe for one minute that you can plead ignorance that you did not know the difference between MD and DO. This was a deliberate slur. One that should be beneath you.
I would suggest that a profound apology to the American Osteopathic Association and all its practitioners, physicians and medical students be offered…..
